Over the past year, unknown persons have forged information about the deployment of more than 100 warships.
According to the results of research by the Internet publication Wired, SkyWatch (a robotic monitoring system) and Global Fishing Watch (a service for tracking illegal fishing), hackers changed the coordinates of more than 100 locations of active warships, including the British aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth and the American destroyer Roosevelt.
In some cases, distorted information indicated that ships entered disputed areas, including the waters of naval bases, which is fraught with serious international conflicts.
The researchers recorded the falsifications after comparing the available information with the data of the AIS system (automatic ship identification system). Disinformation came from coastal AIS receivers, and real information came from satellites.
