The effect is obtained when exhaust gases and fuel residues condense, freeze and expand in less dense layers of the atmosphere. Then the reflected sunlight is refracted due to dispersion and creates such an amazing effect. It is usually obtained at launch 30-60 minutes before sunrise/sunset.
