LG has developed a flexible glass for displays, which is not inferior in strength to the traditional one

Folding smartphones Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are in good demand, so manufacturers predict a further increase in the supply of devices with a flexible screen. LG has proposed a new design of glass for gadgets of this type – it has the hardness of classic glass, but does not form a visible fold on the fold. The new design consists of a PET film with an improved double-sided coating. Unlike existing polyamide films and tempered glass, this arrangement significantly improves flexibility and eliminates the problem of residual bending on folding devices. In addition, the new “glass” can be bent in both directions, while the previous models are designed only for one-sided folding.
The thickness of the new product is less than that of tempered glass, and the price is comparable to existing versions. During the test, the sample withstood more than 200,000 bending cycles. Although the new double-sided coating is only a few micrometers thick, the next type of “Real Folding Window” is already being developed without the use of PET film to create even thinner glass for folding smartphones and roll-up screens. Serial production is planned to open next year, and sales a year later
