Joint innovations of IBM and Samsung can be breakthrough
IBM and Samsung have announced the discovery of a revolutionary way to assemble transistors. This will significantly reduce the battery consumption from the processor and may lead to the fact that in the future smartphones will be able to work for a week on a single charge.
Although smartphone manufacturers are constantly improving their products, the batteries in mobile devices still leave much to be desired. The new discovery of International Business Machines and Samsung could change that.
IBM and Samsung jointly announced that the result of their collaboration was a new discovery in the field of creating processors. Until now, semiconductors have been assembled into chipsets using the FinFET method. IBM and Samsung have found a way to install them vertically using the method of vertical transport field-effect transistors. Thanks to this, more transistors can be installed on one chip. IBM and Samsung say this could mean twice as powerful processors and up to 85% reduction in power consumption. Thus, the batteries in smartphones will be discharged much more slowly. The manufacturers also stated that this is a step towards reducing the energy consumption of cryptocurrency mining.
