A hacker has hacked his Tesla and is mining $800 a month worth of cryptocurrency on it

Even Elon Musk himself often positions the Tesla electric car as a “computer on wheels”, so it’s not surprising that hackers also look at it in this aspect. One of them, Siraj Raval, in a recent interview with CNBC, said that he turned his 2018 Tesla Model 3 into a mining rig. With its help, he extracts bitcoins and ether in the amount of $ 400 to $800 per month.
Raval proudly shared the scheme of hacking the on-board computer, which by default is not very suitable for such work. I had to disable protection, attach graphics chips, change protocols. Tesla turned out to have a convenient electrical circuit, thanks to which mining costs range from $ 30-60 per month – that is, the venture pays off with a vengeance.
Now Raval plans to launch a taxi service based on the upgraded Tesla. They will turn into full-fledged robots and will mine cryptocurrency in between trips. Experts assess his plans as “contradictory” – the hacking and mining scheme itself is quite working, but operating a car in this mode at a price of $40 thousand to $100 thousand is a so-so idea. Moreover, such interference will lead to the cancellation of the warranty, and the purchase of a new Tesla for the sake of mining will simply not have time to pay off.
