The trailer for the first series of The Lord of the Rings from Amazon “blew the brains” of Tolkien fans
Amazon took advantage of the media hype during the American Football Super Bowl tournament and released a trailer for the large-scale series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. The 60-second teaser reveals almost nothing and gives only a distant idea of what an unprecedented $465 million was spent on shooting. But the friendly reaction of the audience surprised many.
“Evil cannot create anything new, it can only distort and destroy what was invented or made by the forces of good” (Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made). This is a statement by John R.R. Tolkien himself, which, although it has several interpretations, is considered a canonical description of the main difference between the forces of Light and Darkness in his works on the world of Middle-earth. And it is this phrase in different languages that users around the world now leave as a comment under the trailer video.
On the one hand, the authors of the series correctly took as a basis the events of the Silmarillion, which take place thousands of years before the original Lord of the Rings. The works are not interconnected in any way, there are a lot of unknown but interesting characters, an incredible scope of battles and adventures – the creators of the series had complete creative freedom. And on the other hand, the very first demonstration of the results of this creativity generated so many unpleasant questions from the fan audience that it remains only to wait for September, when the premiere of the first season will take place.
