Netflix came to the conclusion that TV shows are much more popular than TV series and movies

The Netflix television platform has a content rating system, within which the top 10 most popular programs are compiled every week. Bloomberg analysts studied these ratings for the period from June 2021 to March 2022. Their conclusion is that television shows significantly outperform other types of content in popularity.
As it turned out, TV shows account for 75% of all views, they occupy the lion’s share of each top-10 list. A typical show is consistently on the charts for 1-2 weeks, a select 25% of the most interesting ones can last a whole month. On the one hand, this is due to the duration of TV shows – they are longer than movies, and therefore the views in general are much higher. On the other hand, Netflix has a habit of releasing series for whole seasons, so they are quickly viewed and they do not linger in the charts.
Along the way, it turned out that the American audience is not enthusiastic about national media products, and TV programs of foreign origin are in great demand. However, this is a controversial conclusion, because the ratings were compiled in the era of the great success of the Korean TV series “The Squid Game”. On the other hand, Korean TV shows firmly hold the second place on Netflix in terms of number after American ones.
